Why Barley Grass is Effective for Gout/Arthritis?

Do you know that the  the father of western medicine in recognition of his lasting contributions to the field as the founder of the Hippocratic School of Medicine, Hippocrates, also recommends barley to treat gout?

Hippocrates, Sydenham and Galen recommends barley water and barley bread for gout.

Here some of the reasons why barley is defective for gout and other kinds of arthritis.


1.) It is HIGHLY ALKALINE, which balance acid level throughout the body.

2.) It is rich in Vitamin B, specifically folic acid, will dissolve uric acid crystals. In addition, folic acid inhibits the body’s production of certain enzymes responsible for uric acid production.

3.) It contains a high amount of Vitamin C (548mg/100g). Arthritis and Rheumatism (2005;52:1843–7) is a study concerning gout and vitamin C. This study discovered that when a person had an intake of vitamin C of 500mg per day that after a six week period the average person’s uric acid levels dropped by up to fifty percent.

4.) It is also rich in Vitamins A, B1, B6, B12, Magnesium, Potassium, Selenium, Zinc and Fiber.

5.) It contains four important Amino Acids (Proline, Lysine, Arinine, and Glycine) which are necessary for the formation or production of procollagen to produce Type I and Type II collagen needed in rebuilding damaged cartilage and tendon joints.
